Dear Parent(s): 08/15/17
Wow! I can’t believe that we are already in week 3! We have had an excellent start to the school year. It was really nice to speak with so many of you at our Open House! Thank you so much for attending.
Tuesday Folders went home today, so be sure you check your child’s folder for important papers. Please make sure ALL CLASS WORK (including signed tests) are sent back to school. I have a file in the classroom to store all work until the end of the second marking period. I will send the work home (for keeps) after the report card comes home.
The Student/Parent Handbook will come home tomorrow as I did not get a chance to pass those out before the students left today. Please review the handbook with your child, sign, and return the back page of the book by Friday.
You will find a Class Directory Release form in the Tuesday Folder. Please fill it out and return it as soon as you can. Thanks to Mrs. Self for volunteering to be our Room Parent!
GoPlaySave books went home last week. Please remember that all orders and books not purchased should be returned to the collection box in my classroom. The end date for this fundraiser is on Friday, August 25th.
Don’t forget that Friday is an Early Release Day. Students will be eating lunch at school and will be dismissed at 12:30.
This week at a glance:
ELA: Students have been working to build an understanding of what good readers do and how visualization with regard to text is so important to comprehension. We've also been completing activities focusing on inferencing skills. We are compiling anchor charts, notes, and many examples of these skills in their Language Arts notebook. Students will have a quiz covering inferencing next week. Also, students need to study each week for their Friday DOL quiz covering daily language skills. Students should bring their DOL notebooks home on Thursdays to study.
In math, we will finish our unit on multiplication and division of whole numbers this week. There will be a Unit Test on Friday, August 18th and will cover concepts from Lesson 1 – Lesson 13. It will mainly be multiple choice with level 4 opportunities that are open-ended. Our next unit will cover decimal notation and place value.
In social studies, we will finish the unit on economics this week. We have learned about budgeting, saving vs. spending, and cash vs. credit. This week we will learn about a market economy, a traditional economy, and a command economy. Later in the week, students will be moving into our first science topic for the quarter: Ecosystems.
