Dear Parent(s): May 15
I hope all is well in your world! We are working hard each day and staying focused on our goals. I am very pleased with the hard work I am seeing by the students with regard to learning volume concepts in math and the "Pool Projects" students presented via Google slides. I really enjoyed the creativity on display! Speaking of creativity, the Civil War Scrapbooks are going to be awesome I am sure!
I will be preparing a video/slide show for our "End of Year Celebration". I would love to add your child’s Kindergarten/Preschool picture to the presentation as it is always fun to see just how much the children have changed. If you have a picture, please e-mail it to email@example.com As of today, I have only received 2 pictures.
Don’t forget to return the report card envelope. Yearbooks - If you plan to purchase the yearbook, please send $17 in the envelope provided. If you do not plan to keep the yearbook, please send it back to school with your child.
Information for the week:
Math –We are continuing to work with volume. Students are decomposing figures to find the volume. We are using reasoning and algebra concepts to organize our computations. Also, students will be designing new and improved cereal boxes based upon our study of volume. I'm looking forward to even more creativity with this activity!
ELA– Students are continuing to read and annotate articles about the Civil War. Students have also started to design and create the scrapbook about the Civil War. A form outlining the project and requirements was sent home previously. All components of this project and the articles from class are available on The Fifth Grade Website by clicking on the social studies tab. Parts of the project will be completed in school, but ultimately it is to be finished at home. The due date of May 25th will not be waived nor changed, so please remind your child to plan accordingly.
Science – We are continuing with our weather unit. Students will be learning about types of currents and weather patterns. There will be a vocabulary test on the third set of words (Weather Words) on Friday, May 25th. Don’t forget that “Quizlet” is a great place to study for the vocabulary tests.
